Surprises and Woody

5th June 2015

Chase planned one of the best vacations I have ever had and I so appreciate all his hard work and effort. We stayed at the Grand Californian Hotel and surprised my parents with the stay – they have always wanted to stay there and we tricked them into thinking we were staying at another hotel; I had to keep this secret for three weeks and it was tough.

Here is how we surprised them: The night before, Chase and I came up with a lie (well many lies to keep this secret for that long) saying that it is a “Disney secret” that you can park in the Grand California Hotel parking lot as a way to get to Downtown Disney faster – we told them this as we drove on Ball St. So, when we pulled onto Disney Drive after our 6 hour drive, my parents were interested (and a little apprehensive) to see if this would work.

Chase drove into the hotel parking line when the attendant stopped us. My mom said, “I think you need to be a guest to park here” and she was panicking as she doesn’t like to do anything “shady”; my dad was quiet in the backseat. When asked, Chase gave the parking attendant his name and my mom turned away from the window trying to hide her embarrassment that we were not guests and trying to park there. The attendant gave Chase our parking pass and said, “Enjoy your stay with us.” Chase, with a HUGE SMILE on his face, turned around to look at my parents in the van and said, “Yes, you are right you have to be a guest to stay here” and I said, “Surprise!!”.

My mom started crying in excitement and my dad was smiling ear to ear and laughing saying “What?! No way?!” We did it, we got them good!

We also had two other surprises for them: 3 day park-hopper tickets (instead of 2) which meant we were headed to the park THAT EVENING and a character dinner THAT NIGHT at Goofy’s Kitchen. My mom cried again and squealed, yes squealed – she was elated. This was our thank you to them and my dad especially for watching Q everyday for the last three years.

We had so much fun and Q was a total trooper. We took her back to the hotel for naps during the day and my parents watched her nap and took a rest themselves while Chase and I went back into the park to ride Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean (rides our sweet little one couldn’t go on). Q loved The Little Mermaid and Winnie the Pooh rides the most and even braved Mator’s Junkyard Jamboree like a champ. We all are still unsure of how Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is considered a kids ride because it ends in hell and well Q didn’t really care for that and, honestly, neither did the whole gang.

Neither park was really that crowded, it was the emptiest I had seen it in a long time, and it was great weather. Overall, it was one of my favorite vacations to date! Hard coming back to reality but vacations do have to end (until next week when we do a girls trip up to Pine Top). I am going to start on Q’s new big girl room this week and she is going to say “bye bye” to her binkie. Wish us luck!

Countdown Mickey

22nd May 2015

3 more days left of this school year.

This school year has been filled with many emotions, mainly stress and anxiety. I can’t wait for summer to come so I can spend some quality time with my family. I miss my sweet little Q. Playing with her after work is fun; but, I am already tired from the day to really focus. I can’t wait until I can just wake up, throw on yoga pants and a t-shirt, and just sit and play all morning! My little girl is growing up so fast and is such a great kid that I want to cherish it as much as I can (because I know she grow into the hormonal crazies that I teach everyday before I know it).

I also need to spend some quality time on our home. I am excited to create a bright and fun “big girl” room for Q and help my hubs decorate his new “man-cave.” Also, the garage NEEDS an overhaul as well. Things that I would like to put a big check next to before the next school year.

There is one thing that I am dreading about this summer. The binkie. We are getting rid of her pacifier when we get back from our first vacation in Disneyland. She only uses it when she sleeps but I am pretty sure that is how she sleeps so well right now. This may be a sleepless summer for us but it a necessary battle.

Overall, this summer is the first summer in a while that I feel like I REALLY need, that I earned. I am exhausted after building a new reputation at school. I need some Disney, beach, and woods. Frankly, I just want to be outside as much as possible with Q and Chase and , if time, read Catlin Tucker’s new book on using technology to enhance common core lessons (check it out it looks awesome).

Teacher friends, we are almost there. Mickey here we come.
